Diploma Requirements
To earn an International Baccalaureate diploma, students must:
All of the above must be done during the students' junior and senior years.
- Complete courses in six academic subjects, one from each of the IB six subject groups:
- IB diploma candidates must select one subject from each of the six subject groups;
- a second subject from groups 3 or 4 may be substituted for a subject in group 6;
- three IB subjects must be taken at the higher level (HL), and three are taken at the standard level (SL). A student is also permitted to take 4 HL and 2 SL courses on a case by case basis.
- Juniors are only permitted to take 2 standard level (SL) courses.
- Complete the core elements:
- the extended essay, a personal research paper;
- the Theory of Knowledge, a senior seminar course designed to connect all of the disciplines;
- CAS, a student action requirement that requires extra-curricular work in the areas of creativity, action, and service. IB students must meet 8 learning outcomes with their CAS projects.
All of the above must be done during the students' junior and senior years.
What is an IB Course Candidate?
An IB Course Candidate is anyone choosing to take one or more (no limit) IB Courses and sits for those exams. This individual chooses NOT to complete the Extended Essay or TOK. The option to complete CAS hours is optional. Please see the CAS Coordinator if interested.
